  • How to use the Focus 40 Blue 5th Generation Braille display on another computer while still docked in the ElBraille 40®

Problem

Use the USB cable that came with the Focus 40 Blue to connect your Braille display to another computer (while leaving it docked in the ElBraille 40®). The supplied USB cable has the necessary power and data requirements. If the wrong USB cable is used, the following symptoms may occur:

  • No Braille output reaches the Braille display.
  • Braille output may work for a few seconds, then stop working.

Solution

To connect the Focus 40 from the ElBraille 40 to a different computer:

  1. Locate the USB-C to USB-A cable that came with the Focus 40 Blue.
  2. Connect it into the USB-C port located on the right side of the ElBraille 40.
  3. Connect the other end directly to a USB 3.0 port on the computer. Do not use a hub or converter.
  4. To use the Focus 40 Blue as the Braille display for the PC, press and hold the E6 key for about one second, until the click sound is heard. The ElBraille will announce “display disconnected.” The connection between the Focus 40 Blue and the other computer should then be established. Pressing and holding the E6 key again will switch it back to the ElBraille. At any time, JAWS® can announce if the Focus 40 Braille display is connected to the ElBraille by pressing the E6 key quickly.

If the USB cable is damaged or has been lost, call Vispero® at 800-444-4443 to order a Focus 40 Blue 5th generation Braille display replacement cable (part number: 700443-007).
